Summer Exhibition part 2

About

The Gallery At 94 presents a continuation of the Summer Exhibition series - SUMMER EXHIBITION PART 2. Artists on display include Julian St. Claire, Grahame Parry, David Cottingham and Silvio Vigliaturo. Julian St Clair is a new type of abstract painter bewitched by a world of imagery, at a moment when we are experiencing a veritable tsunami of visual information. Images that find their way into his work derive from the Golden Age of popular culture; somehow the patina of time seems to endow things from this period with a poetry and presence that is irresistible. Starting with the iconography of advertising, Grahame Parry's work is an invitation to focus on the idealized and generally sexualized version of reality we are all so persistently encouraged to buy into. Slick, sensual and at times overtly erotic, this staple diet of glossy images relentlessly flaunts their promise of fulfillment and aims to seduce us through the employment of fantasy. The temptation to fashion its own response to such stimuli appears to have been irresistible. David Cottingham's artwork ranges from landscape-influenced, abstract paintings to large figurative, dance-inspired drawings. Vigliaturo's artistic journey is one of constant evolution. The never-ending research on colours and forms is symptomatic of a perpetual struggle in favour of the purity of colours and matter's expressive richness.
