The White Room Gallery's Summer Exhibition is a chance to view original work and limited edition prints by three contrasting artists. Delicate new portraits by Mark Demsteader, the next installment of magical paintings by Tom Lewis and a selection of old and new Bridget Riley editions. It's a chance to see three artists at the top of their respective genres. Mark Demsteader's striking figurative works, whether in charchol, oil or pastel, combine great technical skill with a natural sensitivity which he imbues in each subject. Mark's work has earned him numerous accolades and countless devoted collectors. Mark is one of the gallery's most popular artists and they are delighted to present a selection of his latest works fresh from his Manchester studio. Tom Lewis uses his distinct style and active imagination to create curious characters which inhabit fantastical landscapes. With strong Japanese influences, Tom's recent work continues his previous themes of legend and mystery. Tom is currently working on a selection of new paintings for the exhibition. Bridget Riley is one of Britain's best-known artists. With a career spanning over fifty years, Riley first received acclaim in the early 1960s for her black and white paintings which explored the dynamic effects of optical phenomena. Since then her practice has examined the perception of nature by means of colour and forms. Riley's interest in the fallibility of the human eye combined with a passion for nature's properties of colour, shape and light, have led her to create works which engage the viewer not only with the object of their gaze but also with the actual process of observation. This Summer Exhibition features a selection of the gallery's favourite editions from the extensive back catalogue of this prolific print maker.
