Divided Germany at the height of the Cold War, 1979. Two East German families yearn for a normal life in a free country and secretly prepare a big plan to escape to the West. Their main weapons are courage and ingenuity, thanks to which they build a hot air balloon with which one of the families attempts to fly to West Germany. However, the balloon crashes just before the border and the East German secret police, the Stasi, find traces of their failed escape attempt. Immediately, an investigation and search is launched. Under great time pressure, the two families scavenge for materials and build a new balloon, but with each passing day the police search circle around them narrows, threatening them with discovery and arrest. Another dangerous race against time begins, with the police hot on their heels. Will they get a second chance?
As a pre-film we will screen a short film by Marie Lukáčová ČHOS (2015).
In the filmic present, due to the influence of all the alliance intercontinental treaties for the ever easier creation of barrier-free relations, a new social system has slowly and invisibly been created. Despite the considerable efforts of a handful of opponents, the ever-strengthening neoliberalism is transforming into other forms with the same base of hidden elites. It is thriving in places where it would have had no hope of success with its earlier rhetoric. Its invisible hand is yielding to the demands of younger generations who no longer want to drown their lives in career advancement, but to enjoy an escapist life of style that exploits no one.
