Join mixed media marbling artist Rachel O'Connell for a Suminagashi Ink Marbling on Paper and Textiles Workshop.
About
Marbling is a mindful heritage craft, where we use simple tools and breathwork to create our patterns. This ancient surface pattern craft originates from Japan over a thousand years ago. The surface pattern is created from paint, or inks, being floated on water, with patterns made using simple tools and combs, before being transferred to paper or fabric.
Suminagashi is an ancient Japanese surface pattern, using inks on water to create organic shapes. Each pattern made is unique, much like a fingerprint.
You will be guided to create patterns to transfer onto paper and textiles, finishing the day by marbling a silk scarf and creating a Japanese stitch bound book using your patterned papers.
No previous experience of paper marbling is necessary.
All tools and materials will be provided.
Participants must be aged 18 years or older.
