How do you make a living from the work you really want to do? As part of Redeye's work to support contemporary creative and fine art photographers to deliver personal or self-generated projects as part of their broader careers, Redeye are delighted to offer two short sessions at Beyond the Lens Festival 2017. The sessions explore different business models and give guidance on exhibiting and print sales.
Beyond the Lens is an annual event from The Association of Photographers (AOP), our partner for these sessions. The AOP is one of the most prestigious professional photographers' associations in the world. The Association's aims are to promote and protect the worth and standing of its members, to vigorously defend, educate and lobby for the interests and rights of all photographers, especially in the commercial photographic industry.
1. Balancing your Business Model 11:00 – 11:45
This session explores ways that photographers and artists have found to fund and deliver personal projects within a broader practice. It will consider:
- Collaborations and partnerships
- Working with festivals
- Self-publishing and photobooks
- Socially-engaged and community photography
- Funding routes
2. Exhibiting and print sales 12:00 – 12:45
This event explores a growth area in photography, but one where mistakes are easy and costly: exhibiting and selling your prints. It includes:
- An overview of the art market for photography
- Public and commercial galleries
- Building relationships with curators
- Print sales and the dos and don’ts of limited editions

These talks are for photographers at all levels looking for innovative ways to boost their business and gain a better understanding of the contemporary photography market.
