Two different artists, one result. An attempt to subvert the viewer's perception.
About
Nariscia Henriques' work reflects her Afro-Caribbean culture through decorative patterns , bold with colour and heavily nature-influenced to draw you in. Hidden figures embedded within her paintings , with fragments of hair as clues. Bringing light to a positive & powerful presence of people of colour.
Hamed Maiye's work focuses on creating a connection with the viewer. The expressive nature of his pieces emulate his past influences of artists. A range of pieces which explore different themes such as emotion, identity, mental health and body image. The heavy presence of the female figure challenges the viewers perception of beauty; what is the ideal body type? A journey of self acceptance and breaking conventions expressed through different mediums.
