Unearthing the relationship between the virtual and the real, Substance Rift shows fresh new work and the processes of eight contemporary artists, questioning what the dematerialisation of digital living can offer to contemporary art practices.
About
The exhibition investigates the rich territory between the tradition of painting and sculpture and the purpose of making in the digital era. Connections are created between objects that explore our physical environment using organic materials, defunct machinery, mass produced consumer resources, experimental film and traditional media that interrogate the realm of our virtual and physical landscape.
Hosting the show is House of Vans London, a space which is the manifestation of the culture and creativity that define the Vans brand. Always embracing and fuelling creative expression through art, music, skateboarding, BMX and street culture, the space offers a solid platform to experience creative expression in all its forms.
The artists of Substance Rift will be inviting the public to take part in a series of stimulating workshops that reflect and explore some of the artists’ processes-
Tom Hume will be leading an investigation into Colour, pigment and techniques in painting; Giusy Pirrotta will illuminate the walls by creating liquid light projections; and Zanny Mellor will be exploring light and energy through the language of shadows in abstract drawing.
Check the House of Vans website for details on how to attend, all workshops are free.
