Street - Paintings by Ritva Larsson

About

This is Ritva Larsson´s second exhibition at the gallery Pleiku concerning the same topic: ”Street”.

"In these works I explore street life, focusing on the people living in marginal. My interests include social problems – the difficulties of living on the street and poverty. I portray alcoholics and beggers as well as the happiness and compassion or children playing outside. The images of these people act as a way to explore unfairness in the society, social exclusion, current social issues – and the life itself.

The artworks have been painted based on classical traditions. Larsson uses classical brush techniques and materials: oil on canvas or watercolor. The combination creates an interesting tension between the traditional techniques and the modern themes, where “the social“ meets “the realism“. When these marginalized people are brought into the gallery, we are forced to face something we would prefer rather not to see or to think about.

Ritva Larsson graduated from the University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Fine Arts Lahti. She also holds a masters degree in social sciences. She nowadays works as an professional artist and a social worker.

"With this combination as a background it´s somewhat natural to explore "the social" by the means of arts.”

***

Ritva Larsson hat die University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Fine Arts Lahti besucht.
