About
This Summer, Surface Gallery welcomes back the hottest show in town: the Nottingham Street Art Festival. This hugely popular exhibition supports and promotes Nottingham’s vibrant alternative art scene by showcasing some of today’s best local talent.
As the Nottingham Post observed of last year’s Street Art Festival, “Nottingham is home to an ocean of talented street scribblers, cartoonists, spray-painters and cheeky taggers who seem bent on making the suburban middle class tremble around their wine glasses”.
If that wasn’t enough, this year we are also accepting submissions from artists from around the globe. In keeping with the spirit of the occasion, Surface is taking submissions from established and emerging artists working in a variety of disciplines, making it a truly inclusive and eclectic affair.
The Street Art Festival launches with a DJ set from Gallery Sounds, breakdancing, and live painting in the alley from Pete the Painter, Irek, SEGA, Mr Werd NYC, and TFD Crew. You’ll also be able to enjoy some nicely spiced cooking from Uncle Wayne’s Jerk Station. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from the funkiest brewery in Nottingham: Springhead--probably the hippest hops in town.
Prizes will be awarded on the night by our panel of judges: Snik, internationally acclaimed street artist, Saziso Phiri of The Anti Gallery, and Rob Rennie of Hung Up, Nottingham’s only dedicated street art gallery.
This is a great opportunity to pick up some terrific art at affordable prices. And remember there’s still time to submit work for this year’s Street Art Festival. Visit our website for details: www.surfacegallery.org
Deadline for Submissions: Saturday 2nd July, 5pm
This year’s Street Art Festival will also see a packed programme of events across the city: Rough Trade, Cobden Chambers, Sneinton Market, New Art Exchange, Dr Martens, and Broadway Cinema
