About

The exhibition looks at the work of artists exploring the use and symbolism of hair in their work. Ken Ashton (Deeside), Marion Michell (London), Jane Copeman (Cheshire), Jeanette Orrell (Denbighshire) and recent Liverpool Art Prize winner Tabitha Moses (Liverpool). The exhibition will be supported by museum loans of hair items including mourning jewellery and brushes. We will be holding a seminar day in March looking at mindfullness. The event will include talks and practical activities relating to how artists balance their practice with health and well-being. Oriel Wrecsam is Wrexham's art gallery. Wrexham is a rich and diverse county with a rich history of innovation, and so much to see and do from the Pontcysyllte World Heritage Site and the beautiful and isolated Ceiriog Valley, to the heart of cultural activity in the centre of town. Oriel Wrecsam shows the very best drawing, print and graphic-based work by local, regional, national and international artists, makers and craftspeople. We're a bit different. We quite often have artists working with us on specific projects that help us to view our surroundings in a new way. We provide a platform for contemporary visual art but we're also a creative hub for performance, music, and other events. We provide a focus for a vibrant and stimulating cultural scene in the region. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook to be kept up to date with the latest cultural things happening in the gallery or Wrexham generally. We present exhibitions in our 3 gallery spaces, showing Welsh and international contemporary art. We also work closely with emerging artists and are committed to supporting the development of new work. siop/shop is the perfect place to buy special presents. We sell a wide range of gifts, objects, books, cards and wrapping paper by artists and makers, including Rob Ryan, Jessie Chorley, Gillian Kyle, Melin Tregwynt, Buddug, St Judes, Peris & Corr, Doodlezine, Dyfal Donc and much, much more. We have magazines and journals including Blown, 3x3, Crafts, Ceramic Review, Printmaking Today, Photoworks, Creative Review, Selvedge, Aesthetica, and Garageland. Books and publications from previous exhibitions are also available. Our showcases feature an ongoing display of Applied Arts. If you see something you like you can spread the cost with Collectorplan. Oriel Wrecsam runs high quality visual arts activities for all ages and groups throughout the year. We offer talks and practical workshops directly inspired by our exhibition programme
