Group Show with Moira Frith - Kat Green - Kavel Rafferty
About
Kat Green - Taken from the series 'For the love of Hydrangeas', these photographs look at how the flower's ubiquity in the British suburban garden gives it a certain nostalgic familiarity. This ongoing project explores the ordinary in the local environment, seeing the beauty in the sights and colours of the everyday. Kat lives and works in Margate,
Moira Frith - Moira is a self-taught artist, with a professional background in natural history and conservation. Moira has always been drawn to plants and animals, and in particular the organic shapes and variety of form and colour found in nature. After having her first daughter in 2015 she began to explore these elements visually. Moria’s
works largely in watercolour and describe what she does as ‘drawing with paint’.
Moira loves the immediacy of watercolour as a medium and enjoys exploring the fluidity of the paint in combination with more controlled elements. Moira lives in the North-East of England with her partner Stephen (a printmaker) and their daughters Agnes and Frida.
Kavel Rafferty - ‘Sunday Painters’ In this series of works, Kavel explores the interplay of materials, art, and value, with a focus on beauty. Using original, (ugly?) flower paintings sourced from her travels and collection of vintage finds. Kavel repaints and redacts the floral arrangements with black gloss paint. The collection features forgotten paintings by unknown artists, often dismissed as worthless. Repurposing these oils challenges conventional notions of beauty and value, while subtly collaborating with the forgotten artists by leaving glimpses of the original work and their signatures.
