About
As a pillar in the evolution of human culture, stone has equipped us with tools, weapons, and ploughs as we built under it, into it and upon it. We use the word “stone“not only to define a material of the earth’s essence, but also to describe people, actions and emotions as pure, resolute, total. Where we once mined stone from the ground, we now grow it in laboratories. Once the domain of royalty and royal favours, now, many gemstones form critcial components within mass technology and communication.
Recognizing this material’s integral history within jewellery and object making, we feel it is time to give the stone carver a platform. All exhibited artists have a strong affinity with this material and have crafted remarkable jewellery and objects from it. Gallery S O is pleased to exhibit pieces by David Bielander, Rudolf Bott, Lin Cheung, Katharina Dettar, Warwick Freeman, Gesine Hackenberg, Julia Maria Kunnap, Kika Rufino, Bernhard Schobinger, Joe Sheehan, Alejandra Solar, Tarja Tuupanen, Octave Vandeweghe.
