About
Richard Heys introduces his Stolen Time paintings in the following way:
"The ‘Stolen Time’ paintings came out of the blue, out of the ether, arriving in a storm of certainty, as Dylan Thomas wrote; “Do not go gentle into that good night… rage, rage against the dying of the light”. Time stopped, the world seemed to hold its breath as the lockdown began. In many respects nothing had changed, I still walked up, through the greening crops and trees to my studio at Emerson College, the place where I learnt to value quiet and looking, looking with an open mind, awaiting the right moment, that moment worth a thousand.
My work took off, things became urgent, passionate pleas for life, the thrilling, complex flexing and layering of colour becoming clearer and clearer as painting after painting was finding completion. Colour conversations babbled around the walls of my studio. As I entered the studio I entered into a kind of ecstasy and certainty, a trust in and commitment to my creative process."
