La Mauvaise Réputation is a solo exhibition of new work by Belgian artist Stevie Dix.
About
Collectiv National presents "La Mauvaise Réputation", an exhibition by Stevie Dix featuring a selection of paintings and prints created in the last twelve months in Antwerp. Stevie has been living, working and exhibiting in London since 2010. With this debut solo show, the Belgian artist tells the story of returning to her motherland after abandoning it. The title “La Mauvaise Réputation" (the bad reputation) refers to a song by the artists’ grandmother’s favourite singer George Brassens. It reflects both the artist's feeling of being an outsider, as well as attempting to confront her own preconceived negative idea of the country she grew up in.
Making use of materials of spontaneous gesture like spray paint, oil bar and charcoal inspired by the abstract expressionist idea of automatic drawing, combined with thick layers of calculated colours, Stevie Dix shows a series of emotionally charged, abstract pieces.
