About
Shapero Modern is delighted to present Stephen Walter’s latest work, Mayfair & St James’s, a map celebrating two of London’s most historic neighbourhoods, which features many of the institutions it is famous for – from the tailors of Savile Row to the gentleman’s clubs of Pall Mall; from world famous hotels such as the Hilton and The Dorchester on Park Lane to landmark restaurants like Scott’s, Le Caprice and The Wolseley.
Walter will be drawing on Shapero Rare Books’ considerable archive of rare maps of London, including social researcher and reformer Charles Booth’s Maps Descriptive of London Poverty. The exhibition will also feature a number of historic books pertaining to life in London, including Henry Mayhew’s book, London Labour and the London Poor.
