AboutGallery150, run by Leamington Studio Artists (LSA), will be showcasing the works of award winning artist, Stephen Carlton, on 18th of January, 2011.
After studying at the York College of Art in 1976, Stephen went on to pursue a successful career in Design. However, It was not until his early forties that he discovered his love for painting and sculpting, going on to exhibit not only at the RHS Chelsea Flower show, but also creating a sculpture trail at Charlecote Park, a well-known Natural Trust site.
Inspired by the natural world, feelings and emotions, this series of âvisual conversations', as the artist likes to call them, lead the viewer into a fascinating world of the forces of nature. Straddling the boundaries of abstraction and Impressionism, games of light and colour, culminate in a beautifully executed frenzy of confident and dynamic brushstrokes.
The absence of a title, a deliberate ploy of the artist, forces the viewer to engage more intensely with the works, and ultimately decide the content and mood of the picture for themselves. As the artist states: âIf a painting resonates with you, it's because you have made a connection and discovered meaning and context that appeals to you [...] As a sculptor it's my passion to create and share ideas through works that appeal to your heart as well as your senses.
