About
In the eighteenth year of choral activity and research, AAC Platform with Camilla Boemio is pleased to present on the International Day of Social Justice a site-specific intervention designed for the central courtyard of Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia ETRU by the artist Stefano Cagol.
The Bouvet Island site-specific installation finds an ideal place in this museum, Villa Giulia, enriched with a second seat, Villa Poniatowski, has become the most important Etruscan museum in the world, having in its collections some of the most famous masterpieces for a total of over 6000 objects distributed in 50 rooms, with an exhibition area of over 3000 square meters.
Contradictions, oxymorons. Stefano Cagol's installation Bouvet Island takes its title and shape from an island that symbolically represents opposites and metaphorically opens up our constant conflictual relationship with nature. Bouvet is, in fact, one of the most remote islands on the planet, Antarctic, uninhabited, uncontaminated and at the same time it was the protagonist of one of the most mysterious nuclear experiments, the "Vela" case, an explosion which occurred in its waters and was never claimed by any nation. A historical episode that has never been resolved, a political secret of "international intrigue" that will probably always remain an enigma.
Bouvet Island merges and condenses in its physical and conceptual structure many of the typical elements of Stefano Cagol's process and work: the attention towards nuclear power, the extreme nature and extreme action of man, the idea of limits and boundaries that condition our "being in the world".
The exhibition is made possible thanks to the precious contribution and support of the friends of AAC Platform and supporting companies
