What happens when a group of artists grapples with the idea of the Potentia? A Potentia being a possible future; a better world; a society organised to prioritise human flourishing and environmental sustainability; like a Utopia but rooted in the here and now. There is more than one Potentia.
About
Start Where You Are: Second Degree Potentias features new commissions by Roger Bygott, Clare Bonetree, Sandra Bouguerch, Annie Harrison, Jane Lawson, Monty, Lea Torp Nielsen and Claire Tindale alongside work by Ellie Harrison, Tim Etchells and John Newling.
There will be flags, houses made of chocolate, Stonehenge made of filtertips, pinkness, diagrams, reflections, research into a 21st century Eden, 20 hypothetical cities, a plan to fundraise with a giant wind turbine, a reading room, The Dispossessed and, on preview night, our official project cocktail: Consensus on the Beach
- Democracy Outside (pre-exhibition event): an outdoor exercise in democracy with Clare Bonetree.
Part street theatre and part political action, Democracy Outside will ask what the citizens of Sheffield would like their world to be.
