About

‘STARS IN MY EYES' delves into ideas of inverted and metaphorical spaces that re-cast relationships between light and darkness and finite and infinite space. 13 artists present work made to a brief set by artist-curator Ismail Erbil all the works having to be predominantly black in colour. Taking inspiration from Martin Creed's controversial Turner Prize-winning piece Work No 227, Minimalism and science fiction phenomena such as time and light-travel Erbil engages conceptually with ideas of space, light, ‘marking the now', oppositions between fantasy and reality and ideas surrounding the presence or relative absence of art objects as starting points for ‘STARS IN MY EYES'. Veiled, darkened and blackened the works presented in the exhibition hint at a sense of the lights having just been switched on or off to disrupt the act of looking and the relationship between art objects and the gallery space.
