This group exhibition brings together a diverse group of emerging artists who share an interest in Painting - an activity with an enduring currency and a capacity for invention and reinterpretation.

This year, the students of the MA painting course at Wimbledon are exploring a wide range of engaging ideas including: abandoned, ruined industrial spaces and liminal wastelands; large Victorian botanical glasshouses – sites of colonial collections; the rarefied atmosphere of privileged white gated communities at the height of apartheid in South Africa; fantastical, fabricated gardens as places of retreat and escape; screens as now commonplace tools to navigate the world, through mapping and data collection; language as a key driver of cultural identity, which often appears to be in a constant state of becoming; hybrid domestic architectural spaces, shaped by the aspirational imagery of lifestyle magazines; familial memories of migration and displacement from 1960’s Czechoslovakia; collections, accumulations and hordes; depopulated, domestic interiors as metaphors for the psychology of the self.
