Jack and Lucy Rickards
About
Jack’s work is a celebration of the ordinary landscapes which we tend to take for granted, not just in London but also in the avowedly more traditionally picturesque west country, as well as in Italy and France. This is an accessible art, life-affirming, erotic and often comic. The situations are ordinary, the people normal (even recognisable) but the execution is supremely artful.
Lucy who has been making beautiful pottery for over twenty years, mainly at City Lit and City and Islington Colleges: majolica, stoneware, tin glaze on earthenware, painted and fired with assorted glazes, occasionally slipware, following the traditional techniques of many civilisations. She is a passionate figure artist – not only sensual nudes with enigmatic expressions (predominantly but not exclusively female), but also birds, plants and fishes. Long ago she taught drawing, and it is the draughtsmanship which distinguishes her vases, jugs, plates, bowls and mugs.
