About

Brand new gallery Daniel Raphael is pleased to present Spring Fling, a showcase of five exciting new artists whose selected works evoke the joys of spring.

Featuring the work of Genie Poretzky-Lee, Marit Geraldine Bostad, Lindsay Pickett, Clara Sancho-Arroyo and Sophie Elinor Martin, some of Europe’s brightest and most promising contemporary artists will be taking part in the gallery’s second exhibition.

Through a range of paintings, textiles and mixed media works, both figurative and abstract, Spring Fling features some of the artists’ most recent works embodying the youthful energy of spring. Curated by Daniel Levy, the gallery’s director, this dynamic exhibition promises to be vibrant and full of life.

Genie Poretzky-Lee (b.1937. Gdansk, Poland) graduated in Art and Sculpture from the Academie Julian, Paris in 1959. Her exhibitions and publications stretch over a period of at least three decades and are found in collections worldwide.  Poretzky-Lee’s work has been shown in numerous international solo and group exhibitions held at prestigious institutions, including Kala Academy Panjim, Goa (India), Koukan Gallery, London (UK), Cube3 Gallery, Plymouth (UK), Candid Arts, London (UK), Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art, Norwich (UK) and Gallery of Szombathely, (Hungary). Earlier this year her work featured in the solo installation SHAKTI at the  Museum of Goa.

Marit Geraldine Bostad (b.1976. Horten, Norway) lives and works in Horten, Vestfold County, Norway. Bostad received a bachelor's degree in Art Direction at Westerdals Oslo ACT in 2000 and worked for 10 years as an Art Director in Oslo. Since 2010 painting has been her main focus, and in 2015 she opened her own gallery/studio called Geraldine at an old naval base (Karljohansvern).  Bostad’s work has been exhibited at galleries and art fairs internationally, including Galleri Tinghus, Denmark; Geraldine, Oslo; Lions Group Show / Tønsberg – Slottsfjellet, Norway; The Other Art Fair, London; The Edinburgh Art Fair; The Affordable Art Fair, Milan and Art Apart, Singapore. She has been exclusively selected to showcase her work at New York’s upcoming Other Art Fair later this year.

Lindsay Pickett (b.1974. London, UK) graduated from Fine Art at University of East London in 1999. Pickett’s recent paintings of cityscapes touch on the theme of alternate and warped realities. He has exhibited widely, most recently with a solo exhibition at Muse Gallery, London. Recent exhibitions of Pickett’s work have been held at a range of institutions, including Gallery Chi Chi, London; Studio Eleven Gallery, Southend; Candid Arts, London and the Menier Gallery, London. In addition his work has been on show at a number of events led by the Children of Peace Charity.

Sophie Elinor Martin (b.1986, Ipswich, UK) graduated from Norwich University of the Arts and has since made a name for herself by her unique portrayals of animals. Martin has exhibited at The Affordable Art Fair, Battersea, London; the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year, Mall Galleries; The Other Art Fair, London; Breath of Fresh Air, Byard Gallery, Cambridge; Buckenham Galleries, Suffolk; The Taplin Gallery, Suffolk and at Carley’s Yard, Framlingham, Suffolk. Martin is soon to exhibit her works at Retreat East – a brand new luxury private member’s country club in the heart of Suffolk. Her work has been collected in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia.

Clara Sancho-Arroyo (b. 1985, Zaragoza, Spain) studied Fine Arts at the University of Vigo and the University of Castilla-La Mancha and graduated in 2010. She declares a deep interest in the diversity of people as a result of combinations between them, looking both at the inherited physical traits as well as at lifestyles that develop and carve personality and psychology. She is currently studying a Diploma in Portraiture at Heatherley's School of Fine Arts in London. She has exhibited her paintings at various institutions in her home country, and most recently showcased her work at the  Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 2016.
