Spontonality: a live music improvisation sequence with Tim West, Matthew Barley, Tony Woods, Torbjörn Hultmark and Julian Bliss returns to Kestle Barton for a second year – following the amazing experience of the event last season.

7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 October 10:30am – 4pm each day
Lunch break is likely from 12:30 – 1:30pm

On successive days these five master musicians from radically different traditions will push boundaries in this concert series/sound installation, devised and led by Tim West in collaboration with Matthew Barley.  From linked solo improvisations on day one, the group will gradually combine in duets, trios and quartets, finishing with a group quintet performance and evening concert .

On this final day there will be time for the  ‘audience’ to participate with the five. Work with total beginners has shown that inexperienced performers can and do create extraordinary music – unhindered by the need to prove themselves and freed from convention. The freshness of inexperience can invigorate the craftsmanship of experience – courage and attention are compulsory, all else is optional.

Friday October 7th     Solo improvisations form a single linked thread.

Saturday October 8th     All ten possible pairings – a six hour tag duet.

Sunday October 9th         The ten trios will be explored methodically.

Monday October 10th   Five quartets will be played through the day.

Tuesday October 11th   The quintet will conclude the sequence

On Thursday October  13th Matthew Barley will sadly leave the event for other engagements, but Spontonality will continue, now playing with invited students.
In the evening from 7.00 – 8.30pm there will be a further concert in the gallery by the members of Spontonality.
