A site-specific installation at Curious Projects (Eastbourne) by London-based artist Sara Willett.
About
For Curious Projects Sara Willett has created a new installation from her series of forest web sculptures. It aims to simultaneously immerse and unsettle the spectator, whilst elevating and transforming the humble domestic craft of crochet to obsessive and neurotic heights. Tensions both literal and psychological are created as the fantastical forms fashioned from stretched shirring elastic colonize and consume the space.
Sara Willett works in a variety of media, including, painting, photography, printmaking and large scale installations. She studied at Camberwell College of Art for both her BA (Painting) and MA (Fine Art). She has exhibited widely in the UK and her work is held in collections in UK, USA, Australia, Europe, Japan and China. She lives and works in London.
CURIOUS PROJECTS is a small artist-run curated space that exhibits ambitious sculptural and installation work. We aim to support artistic practices which involve 'making' within a contemporary critical framework. Previously a shop window, the space is situated in an indoor Edwardian shopping arcade in central Eastbourne, incongruously nestled between a nail salon, a florist and a palm reader.
