This Special Effects weekender will broadly explore the history of special effects in cinema and artists film over the last century to coincide with FACT's new exhibition AL and AL: Eternal Youth.
Since the birth of cinema itself, manipulations in time, perspective, light and surface image have appeared again and again in a multiplicity of forms; creating a scripted space, as psychological as it is illusory. This programme seeks to transcend special effect saturated films encouraging us to re-think and re-imagine an illusory world.
The programme features digital 3D screenings and cult classics shown alongside artists moving image from 1902 to 2008, bringing together various styles, techniques and perspectives, moving back and forth in time to trace the changing shape of special effects.
