Space, Activate!

About

The exhibition is dedicated to performative and collaborative practices and focuses on artistic works that literally activate and charge the newly acquired spaces with energy by means of performances and actions. 

The starting point for the exhibition is Bruce Nauman's work ‘Body Pressure’ (1974), which invites and instructs visitors to get in touch with the space itself in a performative act. Starting from this experience, SPACE, ACTIVATE! shows cross-media works in which the invited artists deal with aspects and potentials of interaction. These can arise in collaboration with colleagues (you know, teamwork makes the dream work), but they can also be the result of unexpected encounters with strangers, or even depend crucially on them. Other works pose the question of where, in which spaces, and under which conditions interaction can take place at all, what access to these spaces is like, and how dynamics and hierarchies between people are subject to perpetual change.

The visitors are not just a passive audience, but become part of the exhibition through their presence, their actions and their attention as active actors. Likewise, the set-up of the works is not fixed, but is subject to constant adjustments and changes during the runtime until June 10.
