NEW YORK (June 13, 2019) – As New York City welcomes WorldPride 2019, Park Hyatt New York and Samuels Creative & Co. celebrate Pride Month with a presentation of artwork and special ephemera by Keith Haring, the iconic American pop culture artist whose career grew out of New York City’s 1980s street culture. Through his visually evocative practice, Haring unapologetically demanded attention for the LGBTQ movement from society at large. SOURCE: PRIDE will be on view at Park Hyatt New York’s ground-level Avenue Gallery from June 6 to September 3, 2019.
Keith Haring was a major advocate of public art. His iconic motifs, including the radiant baby and barking dog, all responded to the social and political climate of the time. As an active member of the LGBTQ movement, Haring also worked closely with organizations that promoted awareness and research for HIV and AIDS. A year after he was diagnosed with the disease, Haring opened his own foundation, hoping to educate as many people as possible. Despite the climate of fear and anxiety, Haring’s work was celebratory and colorful, bringing attention to important issues that people were dealing with at the time. It is in this spirit that Park Hyatt New York and Samuels Creative & Co. will honor his contributions.

This exhibition aims to bring attention to the Keith Haring Foundation, which aims to sustain, expand, and protect the legacy of Keith Haring, his art, and his ideals. The Foundation supports not-for-profit organizations that assist children, as well as organizations involved in education, research and care related to AIDS.
