Sonic Waterloo is a festival of concerts, talks and workshops exploring the relationship between sound and place
About
Sonic Waterloo (2 - 9 July 2017) is a festival of concerts, talks and workshops exploring the relationship between sound and place. Happening in various locations around Waterloo including IKLECTIK, Lower Marsh, Granby Place, Morley College and Old Paradise Yard this will be the first festival of its kind in the Waterloo area. Highlights include an eponymous exhibition that presents videos, installations and sculptures by Token Victory, Hugh Davies, Peter Cusack, Lee Berwick, Rob Olins, Ximena Alrcón, Ingrid Plum and others.
There is also a live concert programme incorporating cross-disciplinary sonic arts and free improvisation, with Leafcutter John, Howlround, Rie Nakajima, David Toop, Janek Schaefer, Kathy Hinde & Matthew Olden, Gino Robair, The London Improvisers Orchestra and others performing throughout the week.
Running parallel is a series of free lectures relating to sound & politics, technology, environment and psychology with Jean-Paul Thibaud (French National Centre for Scientific Research), Ruth Herbert (University of Kent), Atau Tanaka (Goldsmiths), Cathy Lane (CRiSAP), Iris Garrelfs (Goldsmiths), Emily Bick (The Wire) and Ian Rawes (London Sound Survey). Additionally, Soundhoppers will present a sound exploration workshop for kids.
IKLECTIK is a beautiful space next to Archbishop’s Park, a few minutes walk from Lambeth North and Waterloo tube stations. It will act as the centre of the festival's many activities. The unique nature of the area - its geography, sounds, social and artistic history - will be reflected in the music, performances, installations, talks and participatory activities. Most events are ticketed or RSVP only, please check the official festival website for details.
