About
Yvonne Buchheim developed the Song Archive Project in 2003 and since then has been working on a theme which explores cultural identity through song.In Song For Newtown, Yvonne will be gathering amateur song performances from Newtown locals during an 8-week residency period. She will create a spontaneous portrait of Newtown through recording songs performed on video.
A final exhibition of the video and installation work will be shown in the main galleries. Song For Newtown will become an important part in the international Song Archive project. The gathered song performances together produce an ongoing international anthology of local communities.
Yvonne Buchheim would like to invite the local community in a process of collaboration during her residency. Don't be shy, come along, talk about your favourite songs, and maybe even perform a song of your choice!
