Soliloquy: an act of speaking one’s thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers, especially by a character in a play (OED).
About
Mark making can be seen as a performative expression, for Ken Turner this can include a variety of media from painting and sculpture to photography and video, brought together to form an installation for this solo exhibition at Tension.
Self expression can be moments of deliberate, considered action or creative inspiration induced by surrender to impulse and accident. Ken's installation is visual soliloquy that explores and questions conscious and unconscious process.
The dilemma which faces the artist, viewer and critic is interpretation - deciphering the artist's actions and knowing where the unconscious has stopped and reason has taken over.
