Software, Hard Problem is a group exhibition that broadly explores artists use of software to surmount aesthetic, philosophical or theoretical problems.

About

With a title that nods to philosopher and cognitive scientist David Chalmer’s well known and popular distinction between the easy and ‘hard problem’ of consciousness (between explaining neurological processes and explaining subjective experience),Software, Hard Problem will investigate artificial intelligence, algorithmic painting, and artists’ mastery and transcendence of pre-packaged digital tools.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of broadcast talks, realised in conjunction with Resonance 104.4FM and featuring: Mark Fell, Jasia Reichardt, Manfred Mohr, Federica Frabetti (author of Software Theory), Murray Shanahan (Professor of Cognitive Robotics, Imperial College) and more.

The series of interviews and conversations will be broadcast Sundays from 5-6pm on Resonance, running from 4 October – 22 November.

Curated by Morgan Quaintance
Featuring: Cécile B. Evans, Lawrence Lek and Manfred Mohr.
