PLAZA PLAZA presents 'Soft Porn', an exhibition of new work by artist Taylor Silk. For the show the artist will build a large tent like structure from a series of hand made rugs depicting various female nudes. Silk appropriates imagery from old pornographic magazines, translating them initially through drawing, then into large scale fabric works. The crude rendering of the fabric shifts the imagery from the salacious towards the tactile, the artists hand being heavily present in this process. The subtle slippage between the functional and decorative evident in the rugs, points towards Silk's interest in how the female body is circulated and depicted throughout diverging channels of western culture.
