About

Socialist Realism remains a controversial and largely undiscovered movement in Art History. While the West embraced new modernist tendencies in art, behind the Iron Curtain a completely new kind of art emerged, paying tribute to the camaraderie and bravery of the working people who strove to build a never-to-be Communist utopia. This exhibition demonstrates the sheer variety of genres and styles of an art that survived the collapse of the totalitarian superstate which gave birth to it and remains a nostalgic testament to a fallen empire.
