This December, award-winning social enterprise Goldfinger is launching ‘Snowflake Kitchen’, an online auction featuring one-of-a-kind sustainable ceramic Christmas decorations to provide free meals for vulnerable North Kensington residents.

About

Goldfinger has commissioned 65 celebrated artists and creatives including John Booth, Tom Dixon, Kate Daudy, Louisa Guinness and actor and Talk Art host Russell Tovey to individually customise ceramic snowflake decorations. The blank ceramic snowflakes started as off-cuts donated by ceramic brand Studio Peover from Whistles’ Christmas window displays - before being transformed by established and emerging artists into unique decorative objects. The individually decorated ceramic snowflakes will be exhibited at the Goldfinger showroom, and auctioned online on their new website.

Artist John Booth said: “Goldfinger epitomises why socially minded businesses are so important right now. Goldfinger has sustainability, compassion and creativity at their heart. I’m delighted to take part in this auction for the People’s Kitchen.”

Artist Lina Scheynius said: “This Christmas will be weird for many of us, but I hope my snowflake can bring joy to someone, and I’m very happy to be part of this initiative that offers food to those who need it.”

Bids for the ‘Snowflake Kitchen’ online auction will start at £15 with 100% of auction proceeds donated to the Community Programme People’s Kitchen to Your Door. This will enable Goldfinger to deliver delicious, home-cooked hot meals to vulnerable local residents experiencing food poverty.

Marie Cudennec Carlisle, CEO and co-founder of Goldfinger said: "We're excited to be collaborating with so many talented artists to help feed our community during the pandemic. Their generosity in creating these beautiful objects, reminds us of the critical role the arts play in supporting engagement, social cohesion and wellbeing. In North Kensington where Goldfinger is based, there is significant inequality and disparity of wealth and opportunity. This is exacerbated by Covid-19 which has increased the number of people experiencing food poverty. This project shows the world that art and design can and should be planet and people positive. We invite you to go Christmas shopping for a great cause - we can’t wait for the bidding to start on these incredible lots!”
