Jenny Wiggins SNAILS MAPS and PLANTS Works on aluminium, wood and paper

About

Familiar subjects such as maps have long been the basis of Jenny Wiggins' work. Continuing her interest in the ‘accidental poetry of the ordinary' a recent series relies on the help of the garden snail. What makes these pieces unique is that the snail itself is not the subject; instead, it's the snail's trail that is employed in Jenny's drawings. Snails move over a powdered graphite ground laid down on the surface of the paper. The results are then subject to the artist's drawing and selection, finally being fixed and framed. Jenny's fascination with plant specimens and botanical collection has led her to make works containing ‘modern fossils' from plants she has grown herself. The plants are fixed in resin and gradually uncovered from layers of paint to reveal their inner structure. Jenny will be showing works from her Map Series, Snail Drawings as well as her new Plant Morphology drawings.
