SKIN OF YOUR TEETH presents ten postgraduates from the Slade School of Fine Art class of 2021. Exhibiting at the cavernous Crypt Gallery the work explores themes of the human body. The Crypt operates a space that reflects this visceral work through its arched tunnels and network of crevices.
About
In response to the pandemic and our collective withdrawal from human contact, these emerging talents explore the body in its full physicality: the organs, guts, bones, and teeth. The exhibition balances tangible biology within the work with intuition and gut feeling. Working across various disciplines including painting, sculpture, and digital media, these makers use their diverse methods to investigate the body as an entity that engages the senses as well as the mind.
Inspired by the idiom SKIN OF YOUR TEETH, the works explore how we intellectually express ourselves through bodily references: falling head over heels, putting a foot in our mouths or having our blood boil. Bringing their works together in SKIN OF YOUR TEETH, these emerging artists invite viewers into a multi-sensory, embodied experience of ffeeling through viewing.
