Showing a selection of work from the last three years comprising of large scale bird portraiture in oils and abstract watercolors with a cellular theme.
About
Hermetically sealed in studios across Hackney,London,Nick Wild has been painting tirelessly for the last seven years.A former textile designer, disillusioned with the commercial arts, became a chef for many years before deciding it was time to pick up the brush once again.
Nick's work is informed by a deep attachment to the natural world,a passion handed down to him by his father an immunologist.Stones, birds, moths and microorganisms,to name but a few,are often distilled into one symbolic motif. His different painting styles are born from a need to prevent the work becoming too formulaic and to reflect the complexity of nature itself.
Nick's photorealist bird portraiture attempts toglorify the subject ,scale is exaggerated, contrast of focus coupled with the interplay of patterna and heavily cropped composition all serve to exalt. The cellular series , his most recent work, is a play on fragility, subtle watercolor techneques are used to deconstruct form to basic elements; the cell , egg , amaeba suspended in solution surrounded by a thin membrain under the knife.
