About
SIMPARCH is an artistic collective based in the USA. The name is a contraction of 'simple architecture' and their large-scale artworks often explore ideas relating to architectural practice, and the way that specific buildings or environments provide a framework for social interaction. Many of their projects are interactive. For 'Free Basin', 2000, they constructed a huge wooden bowl on stilts to create a sculptural installation that could be used by skateboarders. 'Clean Livin', 2003, involved transforming a former miltary base in Utah into an ecologically-friendly workshop and exhibition space, using renewable energy sources.
For A Foundation, SIMPARCH will realise a new commission, developed from a period of research at Greenland Street during the Spring of 2007. SIMPARCH will take up residence at Greenland Street in one of the newly built studios. Their brief is to respond to both Greenland Street as a building, its aim to encourage new audiences to take part in our programmes of activity.
