Bloc Projects are excited to present Showdown, a group show that brings together ten exciting and dynamic early career artists from across the UK with a varying range of experience and diverse practices. Selected through the Bloc Projects membership scheme, works come together in a dialogue that expresses both synergy and collision.

The show marks a critical pause and a moment for play during a period of transition in the gallery.

Tom Crawford studied at Goldsmiths University, London. Exhibitions include If This Is Nowhere, G39, Cardiff (solo); Centre for Remote Possibilities, Matt’s Gallery, London 2014; Detours: After Detournement, Enclave, London 2014; Home Theatre, Baro Galeria, São Paolo 2013 and Colloquial,Schau Fenster, Berlin 2012.

Maria Georgoula (b.1978, Athens) studied at Goldsmiths College, London and Slade School of Fine Art, London. She had a solo exhibition Pom Pom Expedition at Circuits & Currents, Athens 2015; she has also exhibited at New Court Gallery, Derbyshire, Frown Tails, Athens, Delfina Foundation, London; Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Centre, Athens, Sanhe Museum, China Guest Projects, London and Sala Rekalde, Bilbao. Part of Georgoula’s practice also forms the online collaborative Nauru Project, based in Nauru, the smallest island-nation in the world.

Aylwin Greenwood-Lambert (b.1981) studied at the University of Lincoln and is currently studying at Sheffield Hallam University. Recent exhibitions include Collections and Collaborations, The Tetley, Leeds 2015; Looking at the Reflection of Reality, Mark Devereaux Projects, Manchester; Bundle of Sticks, Spode Works, Stoke on Trent; Members Show, Mexico, Leeds, all 2014;Narrative: Point A to B, Fresh Meat Galley, Leicester and Hot One Hundred, Schwartz Gallery, London, all 2013.

Sam Hewland studied at Nottingham Trent University. His exhibitions include Thanks, The Pipe Factory, Glasgow 2014;Cretin Hop, Surface Gallery, Nottingham 2014; Collection,Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Budapest 2013; 32 Addison St Show, 32 Addison St, Nottingham 2012 and Themeless2#, 88 Oldham St, Manchester 2012.

Jim Howieson studied at Sheffield Hallam University. His exhibitions include Ground (duo show with Simon and Tom Bloor), ATTIC Gallery, Nottingham 2015; Vacation (solo show), aspex, Portsmouth 2015; Flexi-time (solo show), Sheffield Institute of Arts 2014; Oriel Davies Open, Oriel Davies Gallery, Wales 2014;Object Abuse, Spinach, London 2013 and Sports Hall Sessions(solo show), Eastside Projects, Birmingham 2013. He was resident artist as part of A2AA at Sheffield Hallam University in 2014.

Jake Kent studied at Nottingham Trent university and currently lives and works in Nottingham. He is currently studying at The School of the Damned; a free, student run, unofficial MFA. Recent group exhibitions include: R.A.M, Mother Studios, London;Business as Usual, STCFTHOTS, Leeds; Too Much, Two Queens, Leicester; Thanks, The Pipe Factory, Glasgow and The AngryShow, 55 Sydenham Rd, Sydney, Australia.

Bex Massey (b.1985, Newcastle) studied at The Cass and Chelsea College of Art.  She has been short-listed for The Signature Art Prize and Young Masters Art Prize. She has exhibited at hARTslane, Archive Gallery and Espacio Gallery as well as with Take me Home Projects, London; Assembly House, Leeds; Project Space 103, Newquay; Newbridge books, Newcastle and HaHa Gallery, Southampton.

Emily Musgrave (b. 1987) studied at Sheffield Hallam University. Her exhibitions include Faux Sho, Assembly House, Leeds 2015;Three Act Structure, S1 Artspace, Sheffield 2014; Peachy,Salt+Powell, York 2014; SPACE IS NOT A VOID, The Royal Standard, Liverpool 2013; Flatfile – Continuations, Eastside Projects, Birmingham 2013; Adapt – Erase, & Model, Leeds 2013;Salon Art Prize, Matt Roberts Arts, London 2012 and The Parallax Curtain, S1 Artspace, Sheffield 2012.

Charlotte Salt studies at York St John University. Her exhibitions include Ha Ha Ha ~ Laughing At Our Own Jokes, Acomb Project Space, York 2015; OVERSEASONED, Gage Gallery, Sheffield 2014 and Mexico Members Show, Mexico, Leeds 2014. She is co founder member of SALT+POWELL based in York, UK, where her curatorial projects include GO MANGO pt1 & pt2, with Caustic Coastal; OVERSEASONED Part Deux, with (it’s all) Tropical andPeachy at Artemis Project Space.

Tom Smith (b.1981 Peterborough) studied at the Royal College of Art, London and Central St Martins, London. Exhibitions include,Vulcan Point, Embassy Gallery, Admitting The Flats, Open File, MK Gallery, Amen Brother, Grand Union, and Broken Replica, Stanley Picker Gallery.
