Rosanne Guille and Deborah Grice met whilst studying at the Royal College of Art. In this, their first joint exhibition, they come together to exhibit work inspired by Guernsey’s coastline.

About

Rosanne and Deborah first met in 1996 at the Royal College of Art in London. Rosie was in the second year of her MA course, as Debbie began. They have been close friends ever since. Rosie soon invited Debbie to stay with her family on Sark for painting expeditions. (The Guille family have lived on Sark for centuries.)  Since meeting, they have spent many hours together painting on Sark and Guernsey, informing each other’s career paths and artistic styles.

Although different in personalities and outlooks, Rosie being light-hearted, Debbie perhaps more serious, they have forged a dynamic that works in both a personal and professional manner. They critique each other’s work on a regular basis priding themselves on their ability to be honest with one another.

Art is a serious business and comes at much personal soul searching and investigation. However, there is lightness to their friendship. Their regular communication is bound by humour, which is usually dry as is the way of the Sarkese and Yorkshire folk.

In 2000 Rosie and Debbie began a long period of world travel together, beginning in India and flying home from Toronto. They kept diaries and sketchbooks and congratulate themselves on only ever having one disagreement.

2002 saw Rosie as a bridesmaid for Debbie and her husband, Andrew Tyzack, another RCA student. Since then, their friendship has continued to develop and thrive. Each supporting one another through ill health, bereavements, children being born and the general rollercoaster of life.

This exhibition marks the first time that they have exhibited together as a two woman show. The show is the result of years of conversations, laughs, tears and above all, friendship.
