About
Shoorah Shoorah is the alias for London based jewellery designer Sian Mclachlan.
With an unusual passion for knots, first instigated by the popularity of friendship bracelets in the nineties and then reignited by an aunty, who gave her a vintage macrame book, she got knotting and turned passion into a career.
Inspired by techniques from chandlery and Chinese knotting, she turns functional knots from traditional practices into pieces that are tactile and beautiful. Her collections celebrate the sculptural quality of simple rope when it is knotted into various forms.
Through repetition and contrasting colour, functional knots become highly decorative and start to replicate the forms of traditional jewellery. Unapologetically bold and beautifully finished, each design is stunning in its simplicity.
“The designs illustrate how careful crafting can turn simple materials into something quite remarkable”
- Sian McLachlan (2017)
The intention is to create pieces that raise a smile and make a statement. Bold and confident colours are chosen to empower the wearer of each design.
McLachlan also credits inspiration from the strong women in her life. A few unforgettable and renowned female artists add the final ingredient to her story.
