Metal & Light
Dot has established herself as a visual artist over the last 15 years, demonstrating a versatile range of skills. From her early fine art work and a passion for contemporary blacksmithing, to her latest work with lighting sculpture and design.
Dot is inspired by pattern and natural forms and her elegant metal designs evoke nostalgia for decorative craft with a contemporary edge.
Dot's fascination with light has led her to investigate its possibilities through sculptural installation and product design. Inspired by pattern and natural forms, she is interested in the way light reacts with materials to express its presence. She is currently exploring light through reflectivity using her knowledge of metals. Her aim is to juxtapose new technology, low energy light sources with scrap and traditional materials, tantamount to a sustainable ethos.
She is also interested in the potential for using light sculpture as public art in residential and neglected spaces. She has become involved with groups interested in promoting lighting design in the social realm, such as Guerrilla Lighting and Social Light Movement.
Dot continues to work as a freelance Artist and Blacksmith and is completing an MA in Design at Sheffield Hallam University.
