About

The exhibition will be the culmination of two years of studio work. While Shaun's paintings always portray a unique and carefully composed narrative, some of the works in this collection pay a nod to 18th Century Masters. The painting 'The Daughter of Mr & Mrs. Andrews' references one of Gainsborough's most famous works, the muse is most definitely a 21st Century protagonist. Since studying at the Royal Academy Schools, Shaun Ferguson has attracted a great deal of interest and acclaim as one of Britain's most promising figurative artists. He won the Discerning Eye 'New Discovery' Award in the 1990's, at the time the highest financial prize in an open artcompetition and invited to return in 2011.
Other awards include the Henry Wyndham Prize in 1990, the Elizabeth Greenshields Award 1989, and the David Murray Award for Landscape painting 1998. Shaun has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries. The Fairfax Gallery has exhibited Shaun's work successfully in New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam.
His works are in private and public collections, notably at Dublin's Museum of modern art, Ulster museum, and Durban Museum, South Africa. Shaun Ferguson is represented exclusively by the Fairfax Gallery in the UK and overseas. 'Some works in this exhibition started with a narrative in mind whilst others begin as a formal arrangement, where a relationship is built between the sitter and an object in a particular space. Through the process of painting, I start to sense an atmosphere that I want to get to.Accompanying objects are either part of the suggested narrative or represent something about the person - their physical or emotional state. Balloons, for example become conduits for
exhalation/ inhalation, a snake plant indicates growth and mirrors the possibility of migration from one world to another. '
