This exhibition of abstract paintings exploring light, repetition, rhythm and movement features large-scale paintings and captures the essence of visits to urban and coastal shorelines. Building up opaque and translucent layers with repetitive and rhythmic gestures Sharon Drew emulates the constant fluctuations of nature.
In contrast to the measured and calculated methods of the architects whose practice houses the gallery, Drew's works result from a process of only just controlling the paint, of letting the material lead the way. The desire is to be spontaneous and completely in the moment, and to share this sense of immersion with the viewer.
Sharon Drew will be at the gallery from 2 to 5pm on Saturday 9 November and invites visitors to view the exhibition and accompanying catalogue, browse additional sketchbooks and portfolio of works on paper.
