A collaboration, in ceramics and photography, on the theme of stillness
About
Ceramicist Jenni Hicks and photographer Meirion Harries have worked together to produce reflections on the nature - and the function - of stillness: movement frozen, time suspended, spaces in which to sense other ways of being which lie behind the surfaces we feel and see. Flowers, in porcelain or paper, that cannot fade but have both budding and decay buried in them. Traces of the sea, pooled in sand or etched on the shapes of driftwood, as reminders of its power to wash clean or to erase. Forms found in clay, patterns picked out of landscapes, figures made objects of contemplation - all claims for the existence, if only temporary, of calm among the clutter of life. They aim in their work not at gloss, dazzle or sensation, but to invite people in to share the stillness they are celebrating together.
