Artist Oliver MacDonald will be in residence at Turner Contemporary, Margate from 13 February to 7 May as the recipient of Shape Arts’ 2016/17 Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary.

About

Artist Oliver MacDonald will be in residence at Turner Contemporary, Margate from 13 February to 7 May as the recipient of Shape Arts’ 2016/17 Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary.

Traditionally trained as a willow weaver, Oliver will spend his residency exploring basket-weaving and its materials through a conceptual lens, creating large-scale, performative objects and installations on-site. For three months he will be using his research and material knowledge, alongside local history and environment, as a platform for creating willow artworks to convey intersecting ideas of tradition, obsolescence, occupational therapy and the physicality of making.

Members of the public are invited to drop into the Clore Learning Studio to meet Oliver, witness him at work, and engage with his practice at any time throughout the residency.

The ARMB, set up in memory of sculptor Adam Reynolds, supports mid-career disabled artists looking to develop their practice and build their profile by offering funds and a three month residency at a high-profile arts venue. You can find out more about the ARMB and its previous recipients at www.shapearts.org.uk/Pages/News/Category/adam-reynolds-memorial-bursary
