An exhibition of new work by London-based artist Samuel Bromley, whose practice explores contemporary ideas of masculinity. Works are activated by their effect on the audience - crass, crude, visually challenging and appealing - making references to colours, texture and popular culture.
About
The work of Samuel Bromley examines classical sculpture and how representations of the male figure have changed over time, or not. He experiments with creating tensions between materials in the work mixing classic art materials such as clay and fabric with every day objects, playing with notions of camp and ideas of manhood and masculinity. His work examines personal identity, exploring the increasing objectification of the male figure in contemporary culture. The works explore the ambiguity around ideas of the resistance and desire of objectification.
