About
The Riverside Café Gallery is delighted to welcome paper artist Klara Smith with her exhibition Shadowmaking, which comes to the Maltings as part of Farnham craft month.
Papercut images hide a secret world. They tell one story in their flat state and a completely different one when light paints through them a world of distorted shadows. That's why what Klara refers to what she does as 'shadowmaking'.
Sunlight is the best shadowmaker, sometimes the shadows are soft and fuzzy, sometimes neat and sharp. And they move and stretch as the sun moves.
This exhibition explores the relationship between Klara’s hand cut paper images and light within the space. As the natural light changes through the day and with the weather, artificial light plays its part to produce the shadowy effect that brings the work to life.
(Please note that the exhibition is only accessible during café opening hours and these may be subject to change due to events at the Maltings.)
