A shadow in the space of the system is a sphere of hidden truths about one's own existence. The shadow revealed becomes a delirious vision of an impasse, a situation that is extremely conscious of the lack of meaning of its own role. What happens in this state?
About
Shadow is a dark area where light is separated by a material object from its source. In the case of the human body, materiality also leaves a symbolic veil. Through politics and the identities it shapes, the will and the basic human needs of the body become an expression of the rules imposed.A shadow in the space of the system is also a sphere of hidden truths about one's own existence - desires, ideas, instincts and excitements. The shadow revealed becomes a delirious vision of an impasse, a situation that is extremely conscious of the lack of meaning of its own role. In this position, the last thing he can do is to give in to the perverse ideas of his own fall.
Joanna Woś's painting is the emotional turn. The human figure in the "Shadow Consciousness" series is a figure dominated by the systemic nature of reality, the hegemony of culture, and the power and violence of institutions that organize norms that do not meet the needs of individuals. Within this framework, the actors in the scenes are guided by a sexual drive that is both a force for life and a source of frustration and destruction. In Woś's paintings, man is depicted as a slave to other people's beliefs and a victim of populism, an extremely administered society that relies on heteronormativity and systematic consumption. Consequently, the human body becomes a tool of the system, and its personality is replaced in favour of continuous improvement of the status of privileged groups. What remains is a dark afterimage.
