Shadi Mahsa is an Iranian artist, raised in Tehran and living in exile in London. She has always been an observer of people throughout her life and finds each personality unique and interesting.
About
She believes that what makes us who we are is based on so many factors; family, environment and most importantly the essence of the character that each of us is born with. Given her background, she has carried with her a deep visual memory of all the characters encountered in her distant childhood. In particular, her memory is seared by women who, within the skewered and rich cultural landscape of Iran, so often bear personalities finely balanced between an imposed subservience and the natural strength of their gender.Shadi questions: what if you must adhere to the rules of the environment and live
within the boundaries created by culture and the government? What if the laws that you must obey to survive give you no choice to be who you want to be? In this case, the only freedom one can possibly have, is from within.
